We have always been in search of that perfect suitcase that weigh’s less but rich on features. Bluesmart was a high-quality carry-on suitcase that you can control from your phone, like a boss. From the app, you can lock and unlock it, weigh it & do much more. You can also track its location, be notified if you are leaving it behind. It also records your travel habits. You could also charge your phone 6 times over with a built-in battery.
Bluesmart was just one of a handful of companies making smart luggage. Its suitcases were regarded as the most advanced with the integrated battery for charging devices. But the fact that the batteries weren’t removable put Bluesmart at a particular disadvantage. The major airlines Delta, American, and Alaska restricted bags with batteries. The rules on Luggage with removable batteries were less harsh than that on fixed batteries. Bags with removable batteries are still allowed to be carried on flights provided that fliers take out the batteries.
The company was stuck with its non-removable battery design, though. Bluesmart had completed preorders of a second-generation version of its luggage. It does not feature a removable battery. Since then, the company has dealt with a number of angry and frustrated customers on Twitter. Some openly wondered about the status of their preorders, but many also demanded refunds and slammed the company for not responding to requests for help.
But sadly the company has sold off it’s IP. It also stopped sales, refunds, and warranty support. At the time of this writing the website was also found to be down. Bluesmart’s smart luggage was the most advanced in the market at time. May be we will see a better version with more features and a removable battery in the future.
